March 18, 2006 - M'm! M'm! Free!

Four responses today, making for a decent Saturday. Considering we had a few days where we didn't receive anything, I'd say we did alright today...

Campbell's (#75) sent over a letter and included four 50-cent coupons good for any of Campbell's brands. I didn't know that Campbell's owned Pepperidge Farm. Hmph.

Energizer (#35 — and one of my personal favorites) sent back a letter and three coupons, each good for $1. I can only wonder if some Energizer employee has my letter hanging in their office somewhere, as a fond (or not so fond?) reminder of Tom Locke; his lazy, couch-sprawled wife; and their 11 kids — er, remotes, remotes.

Clorox sent back a pretty simple "no", not atypical from the other rejections I've gotten. I found the bottom of their letterhead amusing, though. Quality Laundry, Household Cleaning Products, Charcoal Brands, Barbeque Sauces, Salad Dressings, Car Care Products, and Water Filtration Pitchers.

Now, I know that it's common for companies to dabble in a variety of products and product areas. I just wonder who, where, when, and why someone at some point said, "Ya know, we've been making laundry soap for years now. Let's try our hand at salad dressing!"

I can only hope that the manufacturing of these various products is done at different locations. If my wife brings home a bottle of "Mountain Fresh Bleu Cheese", I won't know whether to eat it or to stick it in the wash.

S.C. Johnson, who sent back a $3 coupon for Skintimate shaving gel a while back, sent over a follow-up letter. The letter included a brief survey asking if I felt that my inquiry was handled well. I usually don't answer these types of surveys, but I'll probably answer this one.

Thanks to Campbell's and Energizer for the freebies, and thanks to S.C. Johnson for the follow-up.
